Our Nation's Capital

Ahhh, we love D.C. If it were a little closer than 7 hours from home we'd probably visit more often.

This weekend we traveled up for the third annual Solar Decathlon (a U.S. Department of Energy competition among colleges and universities) that is very inspiring and a great exhibit. We came for the last one in 2007 and were excited for our next trip this past weekend. What made the weekend even more fun was that we had some of our families and a couple friends join us. Mike's parents, his sister Maureen, my sister Jess, her husband Chad, my brother Dave and our friends from Charlotte, the Dennisons, all made the drive in.

We did not luck out with the weather this year. Temperature highs in the low 40s and rain most of the weekend-it was dreary. And we can only imagine how uncomfortable little Colin was, stuffed in a pack on Mike's back bundled up in a winter coat and hat and even mittens. Hopefully he still enjoyed himself-it was his first trip to Washington!
Here are our WONDERFUL hosts, Carrie and Mike's cousin Kate. We stayed at their place which is on an organic vegetable farm in northern Virginia. Carrie works at the farm where they live and actually gave us a tour on Sunday. The house is super cozy and Kate and Carrie were amazingly generous and welcoming to so many people. Thanks, guys! We'll all be back! ;)
Here's how Colin and Mike spent most of the time...bundled!
I hardly took any pictures of the actual exhibit so you'll have to check out the main web site for the event. With the awful weather and worrying about Colin in the cold we only got through a few of the houses.

The nice thing about being in D.C. is that there are tons of museums and places to get warm-and we did plenty of that! I think Colin's favorite museum (if he had to choose one!) was the Museum of Natural History. Here he proceeded to growl at every animal he saw...pretty cute!

Thanks everyone for making the trip. We had a blast and hope you did too! We'll see you all again in 2011!
